I just came back from Kmpg Bukit Belimbing - we went to the river area - where puported about 10 fish/prawn ponds are being built at the buffer area where the nipah and the berembang trees are abound. My concern is, the fireflies will be gone if berembang and nipah are gone. The Fish/prawn ponds are built with the help of the Jabatan Perikanan. It is also supported by the Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor. Thanks

In general it is folly to have aquaculture there. It is wellknown that aquaculture produces a lot of pollution. This could kill the nipah and berembang which could then lead to the demise of the fireflies. It does not bode well for the fireflies.
