Syabas Needs To Reduce NRW Rate To Overcome Water Shortage In Selangor - MB

 SHAH ALAM, July 21 (Bernama) — Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (SYABAS) needs to reduce the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) rate to overcome water shortage problems in Selangor, said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.He said now, for every 100 gallons of treated water produced by the company, only 65 per cent could be sold to consumers while the remaining 35 per cent was lost due to leakages.

Pahang-Selangor water transfer project takes off

KARAK: Construction of the RM9bil Pahang-Selangor raw water transfer project officially took off Tuesday after a ground-breaking ceremony graced by Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang.

Once completed in 2014, the project will pump 1,890 million litres of raw water daily from Sungai Semantan in Pahang to the Hulu Langat water treatment facility in Selangor.

Raw water will be transferred through a 44.6km long by 5.2m diameter tunnel, with gravity flow to the the water treatment plant.

The tunnel, to be bored through the Titiwangsa Main Range, will also be the longest and biggest in Southeast Asia and the sixth biggest in the world.

The raw water supply to Selangor is expected to generate an income of RM70mil annually for the Pahang government, at a price of 10 sen per cubic metre.

S’gor legal adviser given 14 days to submit on water case

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Government’s legal adviser has been given 14 days to file his submission in the case of a judicial review sought by the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) and 13 others for documents on the water agreement between the state government and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).

The High Court deferred its decision on the case Friday after the legal adviser failed to give a written submisson.
