Sarawak awards contract for Murum dam

Sarawak has awarded a RM3 billion contract to China Three Gorges Project Corp for the construction of Murum hydroelectric dam (900MW) . The project will be funded by Sarawak Energy Bhd, a Sarawak Government owned corporation. This despite concerns about the EIA process conducted under State and not Federal law. Under the watered down state law, EIAs do not require public feedback to be approved.
So why does Sarawak need even more power when it already has a healthy reserve power margin of 25%? Because Sarawak wants to attract more industrial investment.
